On the Issues

on the issuesHe had become a source of refuge to the huge farmer community among whom many had lost their breadwinners due to the large number of suicides in Machareddy mandal. Many of the poverty striken farmers have taken to this extreme step, as they could not bear the mounting debts as Mother Nature has been deceiving them every now and then.

He had come forward to help the poverty striken farmer families and had given Rs. 10,000 each to the 43 farmer families who had committed suicides as they lost confidence in themselves and also Mother Nature. He also assured them further assistance. He said that the non-resident Indian community would always stand by the poor, needy and unfortunate people. He requested them to have confidence in the NRI’s as they were their wellwishers and had come all the way to help their needy brethren. Madhu’s sincere advice to them was, “Fate may bestow sorrow upon you but let not poverty, hunger and drought put down your determination. This had been his motto forever. Always have confidence in us. We will not desert you. We will be alwaysready to help you.”

on the issuesMadhu always had a soft corner for the poor and the needy, but the tragedy faced by the drought-striken farmers of Machareddy moved him. He urged them to remain calm and also assured that the help he had given was not the ‘be all and end all’, but it was only the beginning to tell the poor that NRI’s are always with them. According to him, every NRI has an innate desire to serve his people in some way or the other and that they would always come forward in times of need. Only thing is that, the need should be brought to their notice. Now that Madhu had taken up the task of bringing it to their notice, they would definitely come forward. He had assured that he would set up a foundation with the help of fellow NRI’s and this foundation would continue to serve the farmers till their problems were solved. He said, “had the State government asked help from the NRI’s for such a noble cause, they would have come forward earlier.

But the government was concentrating more on Janma Bhoomi and beautification of the State. This only shows that the government is anti-poor. Had the banks closed the files of their debts, many lives would have been saved. It was the government’s duty to arrange a counseling team to help the farmers who have lost their mental calm but as it had not done, he had assured them the best medical help from doctors abroad. He said that the NRI’s were not aware of the situation until former Minister Shabbir Ali went to USA and spoke on their behalf. When Shabbir Ali informed that the farmer families needed immediate attention, Madhu Yashki, founder and President of International Legal and Trade Consultants, a New York based legal firm volunteered to come to India and mitigate the sufferings of the drought-striken. He visited India, interacted with the villagers and gathered relevant information about their living standards. He had also assured to bear the educational expenses of their children.
